Caractacus' Cave

Near the top of Caer Caradoc, south Shropshire, lies the so called Caractacus Cave, now I'm currently having a debate on Facebook about this one, I see a mine trial level, another chap is arguing it's entirely natural, a brief dive into Google reveals it's most likely a man made trial/ shelter cut into volcanic basalt and not anywhere near as old as legend implies, other than this I can't really find much else, I did wonder if armchair would show anything but nada.
I wondered if any of you fine folks would be able to shed any more light on it.

Also here's a link to a write up shared by the OP on Facebook:

Now I've got "The Court of King Caractacus" going through my head... My impression is that this is man-made, making use of layering in the basalt to help driving but no idea whether it's a trial for something - maybe there was a quartz vein in the basalt and someone was hoping for gold in it?

Oh dear haha šŸ˜†
But yes I've no idea what they would have been looking for, it could even merely be a shelter, maybe for food storage? Just above here is the hillfort, seems alot of work for that though...
