We have a report that a hanger was installed in 1976 & left with a carabiner . Would this have been hand drilled? Like the petzl stud / spit bolts ? I would assume it’s a aluminium plate ? I have only ever seen this design in the vertical book .

Cheers

Here's one that I removed from a slate mine that I looked after when I replaced some fixed rigging from the 1980s with stainless kit. It is an alloy hanger: you can see the wear/deformation on this one. It's an M8 thread on the bolt, which is 20mm long and steel (not stainless) This one definitely went into a hand-drilled spit. It was made by Troll, who were an important climbing equipment manufacturer in their day.

I also have a Petzl equivalent. This also has an alloy hanger (more convetionally shaped), with a 20mm M8 bolt. This bolt is A2 stainless. Petzl have stamped theirs with "18kN".

Check out these homemade belters. 8mm studs in spits with some kinda bracket from homebase, B and Q or as it's down ear in Cornwall trago mills.
