Thanks for this you have cleared something up. So the one with the sheep pens outside is High Skears and does not connect with Marlbeck,.
That's right, it's High Skears Mine. Interestingly, the London Lead Co. plans don't give the level there a name, and Marlbeck is marked as 'Old Marlbeck'. From those same plans (the then unnamed) High Skears Mine isn't shown as connecting with Marlbeck. I don't know if any modern explorers have found connections between High Skears and Marlbeck (you'd have to be pretty thin to get in through the hole left for the water at High Skears!). However, (Old) Marlbeck is shown with a drive north to connecting in to the workings at Lodgesike at a lower horizon.

So the Skears through trip ( I have never been in for some reason) is from the Firestone down and out through Low Skears.
Others would be better placed to confirm that for you Roy. Again the plans I've got show Firestone communicating with the Coldberry levels. I know some of the Durham Dales Mining Society guys did some work within the levels back in the 90's to reopen a number of collapses and wrote up their work and findings in their Firestone publication, but I'm not sure what through trips are possible today.

I have been in Marlbeck quite afew times, see the photographs. The entry, which may no longer be there, into what I now know as High Skears was not the water pipe, I am not thin as you say. Right at the back of the sheep pens, on top was a hole, either an inward collapse or a dig, that gave entry. You would have to look for it to see it.
Arrow is approx, could be over to the right. Also, explorable length is from memory, could be 20 metres, could be 50.

Yes. First, fourth and fifth photos in album are of West Rigg opencut, the second & third photos are of the Slit Pasture Ironstone workings which is on the opposite side of the road.

For info, The fourth photo shows the old Lead Mining level/stope inside the Slit Vein which was originally worked underground. The fifth photo is the same thing, just a wider shot. The bit that you see in the middle is the Slit Vein itself - the Ironstone quarrymen that worked the site later weren't interested in it, just the Ironstone, so they left the vein as you see it in the photo.
