Into the Wheal Maid Decline from below

Excellent video, Ben's getting better and better at these, the lighting and narrative now is brilliant - nice one! That raise climbing on ladders and DIY brackets is sketchy A.F. though 😅 If Ben and Eric would like to come maypoling with the inimitable Boom Billiam (of this parish) on nice light aluminium scaff poles then get in touch! ;) It's probably also polite to mention that this raise was initially climbed by a different explorer, but they removed the ropes and bolts after it received unwanted attention - this is a "re-climb" (although to be fair to them, a hard as nails one!).

I thought Flippin Bill was from Caradon?

Ahhh I was referring to the forum - "of this parish" is used colloquially on forums to mean "posts here". I can see where the confusion arose! 😅

I've been off the radar for a few years and made a point of digging my kit out for this trip. It was epic. The stope you go up to get to the shallow adit is amazing. The timbering is possibly better than the decline. Properly massive. The pitch is a bit exciting. End of summer low water should reveal more, whiteworks is not happening though. There is a bit of stoping behind the boards in one place, which must have almost been done by children. Doing the ascent on ladders is possibly one of the most mega things I've seen. We went up a shaft on scaffold bars, which was pretty mad, but the ladders in a stope is 11/10 mental.

I can remember Whiteworks well, I did it years ago with Roy M when the shaft was open with a bat castle, there are pics on here of that trip.
