There is another level in that vicinity also on private land, does not go far.
Also, Heb and I, a few years ago checked out all the levels up to the road, nothing doing. Low Hundy is worth am explore though.
I should also mention that "the four lines" not of poetry but from a Methodist Hymn, its in my paper.

So. Are you goint to take up Leif's offer and prove him wrong?
I am temprted to put money on the table
Yes, I do like Low Hundy, interestingly different geology for the area

Where do you think the flooded sump went to, there cant be any lower level?
Yes, interesting that, lower workings? Can’t be a missing level but, I’ve been told of a canal project under Tyne bottom that hit very hard rock and had to be abandoned and is now obviously flooded. Don’t know anything more about it than exactly that, including route taken but, I’ve heard very loose speculation it was part of that project? Personally, I don’t believe so as it’s practically in line with the vein being worked above so maybe either working or an attempt to work a lower horizon of that vein. If it were part of the canal project, make more sense logistically to defend from outside the mine, if the project even was on the area of Hundy Lower. Love the finger marks near the back on a mud filled fault but couldn’t say their age.

I have never heard of any project like you describe. The sump just seems odd as its obviously blind or down to blind workings and I cannot see any sign of where a pump has been fitted. It cant be that far above river height.

It was something mentioned by a reliable friend who has now passed, I’ve not seen any archival evidence of it but we will get some diving done in Tynebottom to see if there is any evidence at some point. He also mentioned that Hundy Bridge low is interconnected to others, I assume via upper workings.

Wasn't there a pumping engine in Tynebottom? That would have dewatered a lot of the area.
Also a sump may have been dry until the level stopped properly self draining due to falls and the sump got filled up.
The deep canal level was a definite thing though no idea of how far it ever got driven. Pete J did a talk about the various canal levels in the area, both actual and proposed.
Low Hundy definitely connected with others though as far as I know, nobody has had a bash at digging the higher levels.

Chris Elliott dived Tynebottom.
It’s his dive line people see in there.

Yes, there are connections to the higher workings, a climb up just inside, I didn't attempt on my own.
There are a lot of interesting mines in the area outside of the Upper Nent Valley
I wonder if this warrants a new thread starting?

It does look like something was being extracted as wooden structure is in place by as you say, it’s below river level so a strange one. Need to get a submersible down that one.

I have quite afew photos, I will upload them when the photo DB is established.

As I said, there is a climb up but I would need a short ladder to get started, I can see this being difficult to get in. It has been some years since I was in there.

It’s a drop through a relatively narrow hole into waste deep water initially
