It’s helpful to know a bit about members and their backgrounds before posting and contributing to more subject-specific areas of the site (general chat sub-forum is open to those without an introduction).

It’s been a good way for ex-AN members to announce their presence and it provides a space for these reunions. From a moderator perspective the benefit of filtering out bots/spam/trolls outweighs the imagined burden on members saying if they’re ex-AN or interested in XYZ etc. The good news is that the painful bit is out the way for you, welcome to the forum!
