A couple of recent posts on FB: One from the Mine Remediation authority, one from The Valley Times.

There has been a collapse, Aber-Rhondda Road is currently closed in both directions between Tynewydd Square and Packers Road.

It almost swallowed a council mini road sweeper. It's estimated to be 20ft wide and 30ft deep

Five houses have been evacuated as a precaution.

This mine is claimed to have been the first pit to be sunk in the Rhondda Fach Valley when sunk by L.J. Hadley in 1845.

By 1850 it was in the hands of James Thomas ' Troedyrhiw Coal Company, and after 1875 it was owned by the Aber-rhondda Coal Company who changed its name to Aber-rhondda.

From the Inspector of Mines list 1896, it was managed by David Jones and employed 118 men underground and 12 men on the surface.

In 1899 it employed 115 men but by 1900 it only employed 48 men. It was served by the Taff Vale Railway, in 1897 it had a sidings capacity of 130 full wagons, 62 empty wagons, and one other wagon. It was sunk to the No.3 Rhondda seam at a depth of 88 feet and closed in 1901.
