According to Absalom Francis, mine started around 1838, with deepest shaft reaching 65 fm.Pumping powered by large waterwheel at the current site of the Rheidiol Power Station Reception, power being transferred to the pumps by a long line of flat rods running down the hillside. Given the favourable location for a deep adit, it is suprising that one was not driven.

Between 1867 and 1876, 1,744 tons of lead ore was sold.
