Fluorspar mine, integrated into the Whiteheaps - Sikehead group of mines in the Hunstanworth vicinity, ceased operations relatively recently and the site has been leveled. Weardale Mining and Processing, Ltd., held ownership in its final operational phase, with significant developmental initiatives undertaken during the 1960s and 70s by the British Steel Corporation following their acquisition from Blanchland Fluor Mines Limited. Despite the veins in the area containing modest quantities of galena, the presence of high silver content within contributed substantially to the mines’ economic viability. Among the veins exploited were the White Vein, Red Vein (Hunstanworth), Shield’s (Company’s) Vein, and Ferneygill Vein.
