Remains of Edwards’ wheelpit, whim circle and engine shaft



Year Activity
c1869 Company mining the Bryn yr Arian sett start work at Pensarn which is at the eastern end Bryn yr Arian sett. Pensarn new shaft at 12fm deep was being sunk by 9 men, with wheelpit, launder, flat rods and bobs installed under a Mr Edwards.
1870 Capt Joseph Richard recommends unwatering 40fm deep old shaft.
1871 Company runs out of resource, mine(s) for sale.
1878 Company running the failing Cwm Dwyfor mine relocate here to work Pensarn. Work recommences on new shaft under Captain J. Ridge, some work also done at Bryn yr Arian.
1886 Mine closes, no ore having been raised.
