The California Iron Mine, also referred to as the Higher Goosemoor Mine, was operated by the Brendon Hills Iron Ore Company. It commenced operations in 1865, underwent expansion in 1879, and ceased production in 1883. The site includes the remnants of a small spoil tip associated with the mine, located at SS9570 3550, characterized by a lobed tip with a narrow tail stretching 125 meters in total length. These remnants were identified as earthworks and mapped using aerial photographs. The former location of the California mine shaft is now recognizable only as a small depression, approximately at SS 95543557.
