Two wheelpits intact, one which pumped using flat rods, the smaller, lower one for crushing. The upper pit is carved out of the rock.
According to Absalom Francis, as many as 5 shafts, all less that 10fm in depth had been sunk in the marshy ground during the 1840s. Results considered promising. Waterwheels installed prior to 1855.
