Marked by seizeable ancient hushes, was later utilized by the London Lead Company for lead extraction from Deerfold and West Hush Levels. The predominant gangue mineral is barytes. In 1937, Athol G Allen (Stockton) Ltd acquired the lease and commenced reworking the old levels for this mineral. Subsequently, mining operations shifted to opencast methods. Fordamin Ltd assumed control of the mine in 1985, followed by Closehouse Minerals Ltd in 1989.

However, the mine ceased operations shortly after the turn of the century and now lies abandoned, with all plant equipment removed from the site. Currently, none of the levels are accessible, although some mineralization is visible in the opencut and spoil. For a detailed geological overview, refer to Hill J A and Dunham K C’s 1968 publication ‘The barytes deposits at Closehouse, Lunedale, Yorkshire,’ in Proceedings of the Yorkshire Geological Society, Vol. 36, pp. 351-372.
