Frizington, nestled alongside Egremont and Cleator Moor, lies at the heart of the historic West Cumberland (now Cumbrian) iron mining district. This area boasts numerous individual mines within a relatively compact area surrounding these villages. Some of these mines, such as Mowbray, Pallaflats, and Bigrigg, remain renowned for their mineral specimens, despite most of them closing down in the early 20th century.

While Minerals of Northern England by Symes and Young (2008) briefly mentions a Frizington Park mine, details about it are sparse. There is some debate as to whether there ever existed a mine specifically known as the ‘Frizington Mine.’ It’s possible that the Frizington Mining Company and/or the Frizington Coal Company referred to their respective mines as the ‘Frizington Mine.’
