The mine, located south of Wheal James and east of Retire hamlet, operated as a small iron mine on the Withiel iron lode. Its workings comprised two shafts situated on the back of the lode and an adit driven from the southern valley into the sett. Although the approximate position of the southern shaft is marked by the provided grid reference, no visible remains of the workings exist today. Records indicate that between 1856 and 1870, the mine produced 23,960 tons of iron ore.
