Nestled between Catbells and Maiden Moor, a lead mine occupies a small amphitheater, its extensive dumps marking its presence. It is believed that mining activities commenced in the late 18th century. Subsequently, the mine saw active operations during the periods of 1849-1853 and 1863-1870, before finally ceasing operations in 1893. Cerussite and a small amount of pyromorphite have been reported from the upper levels, while galena, sphalerite, and quartz are among the minerals extracted from the main workings. Although anglesite has been found on the spoil heaps, they are generally considered barren. Interestingly, there are reports of a copper vein intersecting the main Yewthwaite lode, with attempts made to explore it at Little Mine Crag.
