Most of the current remains are from the 1920s expansion and rebuilding. Though deteriorating there is still much to see including a Baxter’s of Leeds stone crusher, beehive kilns, boilers and drying sheds.
A brickworks was operated on the site in the 1800s though it closed by the late 1800s.
Re-established in the early 1900s and operated by a German named Steibel. Taken over by Charles Tidy in 1909 and run until WWI. Tidy re-opened the works in 1921 and it was expanded significantly with modern equipment and manufacturing practices.
Final closure, for economic reasons, was in 1949.
