Dating back to at least 1540, this mine became a significant tin producer during the 19th century. Situated between Godolphin Hill and Tregonning Hill, its workings are located in the saddle between these two hills. The coordinates point to Leeds shaft, where the engine house was recently restored in 2005. Notably, Thomas Epsley introduced blasting into mining operations here in 1689. It’s recorded that when Wheal Breage Lode transitioned from granite to greenstone, the tin ore it held within the granite vanished instantly, as documented by Henwood in 1843.
