Smith (1921) mentions a whim shaft to the south-southeast of Saithaelwyd Cottage, possibly corresponding to a shaft in the woodland at SJ 1674 7656. A further shaft remains to the southeast at SJ 1677 7650, located east of the woodland. The workings extend southward toward the Grange Quarries at SJ 1680 7590, passing to the east of the quarry. Larger shafts and spoil mounds are located at SJ 1678 7634, SJ 1680 7631, SJ 1685 7615, SJ 1693 7608, and SJ 1692 7595, continuing south.

Pperated by the Holway District Lead Co Ltd (1884-1886), previously known as West Holway (1879-1883) and New South Merllyn (1870-1879). These operations ran alongside the Saithaelwyd mine (1883-1897), with the West Holway Co also working the Golch Hill sett (SJ 1670 7640) from 1864-1866. The workings were primarily located on the Portaway Lode and the West Holway and Golch Hill Veins, which run north to south.
