Tubs were hauled in rakes 6 of down a 1 in 3 decline. At the top was an electric haulage engine in a building with 4 tipplers which led straight into trailers for despatch.
1953-1980s Graigend Refractories Ltd
Graigend Refractories (Graigend, Polmont) closed October 1982. The clay for the bricks was transported from the Carbrook Mines by lorries hired from William Grants. Originally (c. 1938) 100 people were employed by the mine. In 1979 - 20 people worked the mine and delivered 65 tons of clay per day.
