Situated southeast of Egremont village, The Beckermet Mine commenced operations in 1903 and ceased production in 1973. Despite being one of the later mines in the region, it eventually interconnected underground with the Florence and Ullcoats mines. While its primary focus was the extraction of iron ore from hematite, the mine complex also yielded numerous specimens, including calcite, quartz, hematite, fluorite, and dolomite. A notable discovery occurred in the early 1970s with the finding of calcite within the ‘Banana Slide’ fault zone.
