Worked jointly with South Polmear? Situated approximately one mile east-southeast of St Austell, was primarily a copper mine but also extracted ores of lead, silver, zinc, and iron. It encompassed South Polmear as well. According to Spargo (1865), mining activities began in 1842, but a new company took over around a decade later. Despite initial promising discoveries, the mine disappointed expectations due to the short-lived richness of copper findings. Miners described it as a ‘bunchy’ mine. Despite its shallow depth, the returns were considered fair. There was reluctance to sink deeper, with the company preferring to explore shallow points. Nonetheless, a new water-pumping wheel was installed on the eastern side of the area where prospects seemed favorable. In 1864, minerals sold from the mine included 753 tons of copper ore, 88 tons of pyrite, totaling £3,933 17s 1d. Output records indicate that between 1856 and 1900, Polmear produced 6,459 tons of 8% copper ore, 77 tons of 33% zinc ore, 1,733 tons of pyrite, 64 tons of arsenopyrite, and 5cwt of black tin. South Polmear, during various periods, yielded 34 tons of 5.5% copper ore, 14 tons of 50% lead ore, 150 oz of silver, and 38 tons of pyrite.
