Two pits, eastern one one filled with watste from the west one.**

Traces remain of the upper incline and the inner end of the upper west pit tunnel. The mill area is now densely overgrown and extensive extraction has obscured much of the remainder of the site. The former railway spur remains traceable, and several nearby dwellings were probably quarry workers’ houses.

The site consists of a large hillside quarry created by the merging of two earlier workings, which may date back to the early 17th century. Initially, stone was lowered by an incline to a mill equipped with four saws and two planers powered by a waterwheel, later replaced by an 18-horsepower turbine. As the quarry deepened, the incline system was replaced with tunnels.

With the opening of the Whitland & Taf Vale Railway in 1873, it was no longer necessary to transport stone to distant stations. The eastern pit was subsequently abandoned, and operations focused on producing roofing slates from the western pit. As the western pit expanded, a new tunnel was driven partway down the exit incline. At its peak, the quarry employed nearly 100 men, though demand declined towards the end of the 19th century.

A short-lived revival occurred in the mid-1920s when the mill was powered by electricity generated from an oil-driven engine, while the turbine continued to grind waste for brick production. However, weak demand and high freight costs for the heavy bricks led to closure in 1926.
