Copper mine, initially known as South Wheal Josiah, operated from 1848 in the vicinity between the Tamar River and the road to Latchley. It encompassed a vast area from Latchley in the north to Chilsworthy in the south and from the Tamar River in the east to the small valley between Coxpark and Latchley in the west. In 1853, it was reorganized and renamed West Devon Consols, with reduced sett boundaries. Operations persisted until at least 1862, reaching a depth of 40 fathoms. The grid reference indicates the approximate location of Edith Shaft, but there are no documented production records. This mine should not be confused with another of the same name situated on the Devon side of the Tamar River, between Latchley and Luckett.
