This was a small and ultimately unsuccessful trial mining operation situated along a northeast-trending mineral lode. The mine was worked intermittently until 1864, operating under different names at various times. In 1832, it operated under the name Haughton Downs Mine, and around 1850, it was known as East Wheal Frances. Today, a significant shaft dump serves as a remnant of its presence, located in a field south of Deep Lane, just northeast of Four Lanes. Despite its operation, there are no recorded outputs from this mine. It’s important to note that this mine should not be confused with Wheal Basset or Wheal Buller, as they were unrelated operations.
