A trial drift was driven around 1891 in a farmyard on the south side of the valley road, approximately 170 yards east of Whitecliff House. It extended 80 yards on the dip, with a heading over 300 yards long that connected to a crop hole on the north side of the valley. The venture was not particularly successful, yielding only about 1,000 tons of ore.
