Two shafts can be found in fields to the west of Gwaenysgor village, located at SJ 0703 8120 and SJ 0709 8123. However, there is no remaining evidence of the shaft shown within the village at SJ07708120, which appears on the OS 1st edition map.

The area was worked by the London Lead Company in the 18th century, though most remaining evidence appears to date from the late 19th century. The mine workings seem to be associated with levels driven into the hillside from Coed yr Escob Woods.
