Occupies part of Llwynteifi sett. Working the Castell-Caegynin lode by three adits driven west.

Remains of large wheel pit in the river, supporting walls that once held compressor and dressing machine. Dressing floors.

Year Activity
1876-1881 Worked by Temple Lead Mining Company. 1.25 mile long leat, half through solid rock of the gorge built to provide power. 40’ x 4’ waterwheel installed outside the middle and deep adits, underfround shaft beinf pumped by flat rods.It also powered a compressor for drillig and a machine for drawing using 800m of steel rope.
1881 The middle and deep adits hit good ore after 50m and this allowed 100 tons of galnea and 22 tons of blende to be sold in this year. The lode rapidly petered out, attempts at cross cuts on Castell lode disappointing. Works stops.
1886/7 Worked by Cardigan United with Francise Absalom as agent. Drained mine and sank Rawcliff’s Shaft to a depth of 15fm, with intention of cross cutting to Castell lode. This failed with only 3 tons of lead ore from old workings being sold.

Closed in bird breeding season (April to July)
