Old Engine Shaft, located at SJ 2010 5715, is capped, with the remains of its pumping engine found to the southeast of the shaft. Though the 1st edition OS map of 1871 does not mark the area as a mine, older shafts are depicted on the hillside to the south, with shafts visible at SJ 1985 5680.
A track runs uphill from the main road to additional workings. One shaft, worked at the western end of Pant-y-gwlanod at SJ 2010 5727, has been lost to quarrying. The area across the road from Pant-y-gwlanod Cottage, to the west, has been cleared of all mining waste, with the dressing floors probably located here before the area was cleared.
The Pant-y-gwlanod Vein was worked in the 1880s by the Pant-y-gwlanod Mine and the Brynymwyn Mine. This vein had earlier workings along the steep slopes of Graig Hill, and the sett also incorporated the 19th-century workings of the Bryn-y-Gloch Mine. According to Earp (1958), the mine had three main shafts — the West Whim, Engine, and Flat Rod shafts — which ceased operation by 1850.
The mine was later drained by the Nant Adda adit, which directed water into the River Alyn.
