Offshore. Mining Journal noted in Sept 1857 - occurrences of ‘antimony, copper, and silver-lead ores’ on the Long Rock, along with a proposal to establish a mine there. This proposed mine was to be powered by an engine driven by flat rods from the shore. However, these plans were never executed. Tin was recovered from the Long Rock and adjacent sands in 1819 and again in 1823. The Long Rock is essentially the surface exposure of an elvan dyke, which, in certain areas, contains deposits of cassiterite.
