Copper leached from the underlying 200million ton Coed y Brenin porphory deposit into peat, precipitating native metal.

During one year in the 18C, 2,000 tons of peat ash was sold at a profit of £20,000.

Shafts and trial levels are makred nearby on old OS maps.



183 ounces of gold was also recovered between 1854 and 1865
