Coal mine close to Fordel Mains

The same coals which are lound at Edgehead, are also known along; the eastern side of the limestones at Fordel and Cousland, but none of them have been wrought for some time. At the former place two seams have been seen, but their outcrop is not sufficiently ascertained to be laid down on the map, neither is it possible to identify them with any individual seam, although there is no doubt that they belong to this series, and are not

very far above the lower limestones. They both dip to the east and the lower one is said to be 3 feet thick, the other 2 feet 8 inches, with a parting of fireclay.
