This small iron mine was situated on the Withiel iron lode, directly south of Wheal James and east of Retire hamlet. The mine’s infrastructure included two shafts located on the back of the lode, along with an adit that was driven into the sett from the valley to the south. According to reports, the lode was fully exploited up to the adit level. While the grid reference marks the approximate location of the southern shaft, there are no visible remnants of the workings today.

Between 1856 and 1870, the mine extracted a total of 23,960 tons of iron ore.
