The original workings have since seen renewed activity. A group of freeminers has reopened the mine, making use of the concrete-lined tunnel that once connected to Howbeech Colliery. Work on the new mine has progressed rapidly, with a narrow-gauge railway already laid underground. Significant remaining coal reserves are believed to be accessible from this side.

Located near Morse’s Level, this mine was originally part of a larger mining complex that extended southwards across the valley. North Wallsend, formerly owned by Brian Sanders, had ceased operations by 1998, and the site was cleared the following year. The opposite end of the workings, accessed via an impressive brick arch at NGR SO 643 084, was sealed with brickwork by spring 1999.
