The levels worked the Mynyddislwyn seam (SW114) for house coal.
There were 2 levels, & at least 2 air shafts.
The levels were known as the Gwrhay or Daren levels, being driven under Daren Felyn Farm.
The main roadway was 6 ½ feet high.
In 1842 the coal was entirely hand-won, and trammed out of the level by horses.
The old workings of Gwrhay Colliery were then driven through by levels which ran 700yrds from Islwyn colliery in 1918 to access a virgin take in the Mynyddislwyn seam.
We spoke to the landowner on a visit in December 2025, and she told us that spoil was taken to the tip by means of an aerial ropeway.
