East Wheal Lovell, the most significant among the ‘Lovell mines’, experienced a brief yet prosperous period in the late 1800s. The mine comprised two distinct groups of workings: Tregonebris and Fatworks. Tregonebris had been active in the 18th century, with operations resuming in the 1850s. However, profitability dwindled after the workings reached a depth of 47 fathoms. Consequently, the engine was relocated to the nearby Fatworks, which operated until around 1875. Subsequently, the engine was returned to Tregonebris, where mining continued to a depth of approximately 100 fathoms, but with limited success until 1881.
