A copper mine, Tolcarne Mine operated two NE-trending lodes known as Field’s lode (also called Taylor’s lode) and Gozzan lode (sometimes referred to as King’s lode). These lodes were accessed from Field’s Shaft (also known as Taylor’s Shaft) and Gozzan Shaft, located west and east of Tolcarne Road, respectively. Both shafts are marked by sizable dumps. Tolcarne Mine later became part of Pendarves United Mines. Between 1860 and 1870, under the name Tolcarne Mine, it produced 99 tons of black tin and 5,630 tons of copper ore grading at 5.5%. It’s important to note that this mine should not be confused with the Tolcarne Mine at St Day, which later changed its name to West Wheal Jewel. Reports of torbernite and uraninite occurrences do not pertain to this mine but rather to West Wheal Jewel.
