A gated adit. Exit for Hopewell Colliery

Located approximately 500 yards south of the B4226 road and around 1½ miles east of Coleford, this is an active free mine owned by Robin Morgan of Hopewell Colliery. It works the Yorkley Seam and was originally driven in the 1880s. Access is via an adit in the woods overlooking Cannop Ponds. While the site is maintained, no coal has been extracted for some time.
