See also: West Wheal Virgin. Small mid 18C tin mine on the northwest slopes of Bartinney Downs. It operated by extracting ore from a single southeast-trending lode using open casts and shallow shafts. However, in 1943, an exploration adit was dug along the lode, and crosscuts were made along some of its branches to assess its potential. Unfortunately, the tin values discovered were very low, indicating poor prospects for profitable mining.
