Small 19th century mine that extracted ochre and umber. It operated through open cuts on the south side of a valley and had shafts to the west. According to Hamilton Jenkin, there were four open shafts still visible in 1958, but they are no longer present today. It’s likely that Fir Hill Mine is the same as Wheal Aaron, which was known to be active on the Little Colan estate in 1847.
