The mine, situated approximately 1.5 kilometers northwest of Marazion, has mostly disappeared into the marshy terrain. It was initially opened before 1792 under the name Bog mine, which operated until 1798 but closed due to the low price of copper. In 1833, it resumed operations under the name Wheal Darlington, with two lodes developed to a depth of 120 fathoms (220 meters). Silver ores were discovered in West Darlington, specifically at the 40 fathom level. Recorded output includes 18,900 tons of copper ore, 416 tons of tin ore, and 350 tons of silver ore extracted from West Darlington.
