In 2001 Tarmac applied to extend the area of the quarry but this was refused by Denbighshire Council. On appeal a public enquiry was held by the Welsh National Assembly and the plans again rejected.

Dormant from around 2003 then reopened briefly in 2008 to remove worked stockpiles. Soon after this most infrastructure was removed. The extraction licence expired in 2021

In 2025 Tarmac applied for an extension to their extraction licence for another 15 years. This application was for work within the current extent rather than an increased area. This application was rejected by Denbighshire County Council in July 2025.
It is unclear whether Tarmac will appeal the decision.
