A Smith & Rodley, of Leeds, steam crane (no. A759 for the enthusiasts) was used to load the rail wagons and this remains on site. Much of the tramway can be walked and a few sections of rail remain around the quarry entrance area,

Solely used to provide millstone grit (sandstone) for the construction of Stocks Reservoir. The site was chosen by an engineer from the Fylde Water Board, Harry Cottam, who was out on a family walk and saw the stone outcrop during the planning phase of the reservoir construction. A 3ft gauge tramway four and a half miles long was constructed to carry the blocks of stone to the dam. Peckett 0-4-0 saddletank engine was used for haulage. The tramway remained in place until the 1980s in case it more stone was required for maintenance. After this time the rail was sold for scrap.
