Small anthracite slant worked the Ynysarwed seam which dips down at roughly 1 in 14. The seam was around 2ft-7in in this area.

The powerhouse and winding house from the tramway still exist, although totally stripped.

1905-1914 Cambrian Mercantile Syndicate Ltd
1914-1920 Ynisgynon Collieries Ltd

In 1921 the company was liquidated and the mine abandoned.

It was never a massive operation, with a maximum of 122 working underground in 1912.

The existing remains are on a public footpath.
