From 1867, coal and clay were mined at the site, although the clay was initially stockpiled rather than used. In 1892, the North Wales Brick & Tile Co. Ltd. opened a brickworks there, which in 1898 became the Ruby Brick and Tile Co. Ltd. Production continued until 1965, despite the site already being shown as disused on the 1948 map. The remaining structures were demolished in 2003.
