The described area boasts a complex network of veins, with extensive opencast and underground workings on both sides of the Newbiggin to Westgate road. The openworks on the west side of the road are situated on the Flask Vein, which is easily visible as it outcrops to the south.
Between Wester Beck and Flushiemere Beck lies a variety of veins, including the Westerhead, Tarn Streak, New Streak, Pike Law Old, Broadly Hill North, Broadly Hill South, Leonard’s, and Flask veins. While primarily mined for lead, these veins have not been exploited for fluorite, leaving significant quantities of this mineral yet to be discovered in the vein material, both in the dumps and at surface outcrops.
The area also hosts a range of other minerals typically associated with mining activities, offering potential opportunities for exploration and further discovery in this historically significant mining region.
