The mine was operational at some point between 1720 and 1780. In 1856, it became part of Wendron Consols Mine, and even at that time, it was regarded as ancient, labeled as ‘old men’s workings’ on the surface plan. The site was rediscovered in 1972 and has since been transformed into a mining Heritage Site, allowing public access to the old workings, and also into a popular tourist destination. Originally known as Wendron Forge, it was later renamed Halfpenny Park and subsequently became known as Poldark Mine. The name change was inspired by the BBC series ‘Poldark’, which gained widespread popularity. Poldark Mine served as a filming location for several scenes in the series, including underground sequences.
