Underground with some chambering.

Main Incline/Transport: The main feature is the foot-of-incline, which includes vestiges of the old cartage wharf. While the tunnel under the road is lost, remnants of the exchange sidings and a small mill/trimming shed survive. Tramway formations are visible, bench-cut into the hillside, leading to the dressing sheds and inclines.

Incline Mechanics: Drum houses (including remote types) with partial winding gear survive at the incline heads. Some drums feature two-part spiders.

Workings and Ancillaries: The top inclines show working areas with drum houses, dressing sheds, and flat-bar tie-rods. Degraded upper inclines and isolated early workings also exist. Ancillary structures include a powder house, a hand winch, head frames, steel stanchions for carbide lamps, and workshops.

Early Paths: Older sledge paths and possible ropeway connections remain, linking the earliest workings to the valley path system.

Began as an open working and later transitioned to underground quarrying, active from as early as 1760, and possibly even the 16th century. Early material was transported by sledging 800 feet down to the valley floor, a method that continued until the mid-19th century. A new exit incline and tramway were constructed in the mid-19th century. Output was approximately 1,000 tons in 1856 and later fell to 329 tons in 1882, employing about 40 men.

Transportation of the product evolved: initially carted to the river, then to the Llanymynech canal, and finally to the Porth-y-waen railhead after 1861. Output declined further to 240 tons by 1890. A temporary revival occurred from 1904 to 1938, utilizing an oil engine for winching and dressing operations. The quarry’s final closure came in 1940.
