The site comprises two pits. To the east lies a pit whose access tunnel has since collapsed, while the western working takes the form of a simple cutting. No structural remains have survived, but there are extensive waste tips that spread beyond the track across the moor.
Small quarry that opened in the 1860s to work in association with Brynfferam. Operations proved limited, and the west pit was soon abandoned with only sporadic later reuse. The quarry gained its name during a brief revival in the early 1900s, when the Boer War conflict was in the news.
