All that remains of the colliery is a small red brick building with a concrete roof, located about 100 yards east of the track—if the track begins to descend, you’ve gone too far. Situated in the Astonbridge Hill Inclosure, the shaft reached a depth of 410 feet, encountering the Coleford High Delf seam at 390 feet. The seam consisted of 1 foot of “Top Coal,” 2.5 feet of “Smut,” and 4 feet of High Delf. The workings from Pludd’s Shaft were drained by a level.
Drive to Pudds [the village] and take the turning to Pluds Court. Park by the forest track, which is just down a bit from a house called Ferndale. Do not obstruct! Follow the track into the woods for 450 yards.
